The Government provides additional funding for schools, including Vanguard School, for every child who is looked after or entitled to free school meals. We also receive additional funds for children who have a parent in the Armed Forces, or whose parent died in service.

This is called the Pupil Premium Grant and is used to secure strong progress, attainment and well-being for pupils.

If you think your child is eligible to receive free school meals, please contact the School Reception for instructions and support on how to complete the forms. Once your information has been confirmed, the School will receive the pupil premium for your child. We will also receive the pupil premium if your child has been looked after continuously for more than six months.

Our Pupil Premium strategy document is reviewed annually.

Accountability

The Government holds head teachers and school governing bodies accountable for the impact of pupil premium funding in the following ways:

• Performance tables, which show the performance of disadvantaged pupils compared with their peers;
• Requiring schools to publish details online each year of how they are using the pupil premium and the impact it is having on pupil achievement;
• The Ofsted inspection framework, where inspectors focus on the attainment of pupil groups, and in particular those who attract the pupil premium.
